Rejection is an enormous part of many creative industries. If you want to be in a creative career, expect to be rejected at some point. You and your projects will never be everyone’s cup of tea. There is nothing out there that is suited for everyone. Some things might be suited to a more generalContinue reading “Silence is Golden… Except When It Isn’t”

Is there a best season to write within? The answer is, well… no, not really; every writer is different and everyone has different preferences. Do you like writing in the heat of a beautiful, summer’s day? Or do you prefer the fresh buds of spring to accompany your writing? What about a warm, cosy fireContinue reading “Autumnal Writing”

I’ll be honest, I used to be a very fussy reader; I used to read only certain genres, books intended for certain audiences, sticking to the themes and topics I liked best, and I very rarely strayed from the authors I knew I liked. In essence, it came down to the fact that I readContinue reading “Being A Better Reader”

A couple of months ago, I posted about building creativity into a habit and how that involves dedication, consistency, and perseverance. It included the possibility of working at something as often as possible, even daily if you could manage it. I wrote all about how to get yourself to be a consistent creator and howContinue reading “Healthy Habits”

This is just going to be a quick update to say that I wasn’t able to formulate a post this month. I took some time to travel and other things got in the way of me being able to dedicate enough time to posting something, and that’s just the way it is sometimes. I’d muchContinue reading “No Post This Month”

When we talk about creating, we often talk about our muse, how it strikes sometimes, how often we are struck by an idea and thrown into a creating frenzy. We talk about the ebb and flow of creation, how sometimes we simply cannot be stopped and other times how we couldn’t attempt to be creativeContinue reading “Consistency”

When you’re your own boss (or at least want to be one day), it’s easy to get distracted. There’s a lot of things out there vying for your attention; responsibilities, work (if you’re not yet your own boss), relationships, hobbies, social media, movies and shows. There is so much out there and such a varietyContinue reading “Re-Evaluating”

I mentioned this topic in the last post given I was talking about coming to the end of a manuscript and how that involves a lot of self-editing, and it was something I wanted to go into more detail about. It’s a process almost all creatives have to go through and it certainly isn’t theContinue reading “Self-Editing”

Ambitions; they’re pretty much something we all have at one point or another, right? Whether it’s based on education, career, family, lifestyle, a lot of people tend to mark off moments in their life based on what they have and what they want, milestones they’ve achieved and milestones they’re reaching for. A lot of lifeContinue reading “Ambitions”

So, the world’s come back to you in some way. Whether you’ve been travelling, living abroad, daydreaming, planning for the future, or you’ve just generally been away from where you’ve settled either figuratively (sitting in your head, wondering about what comes next) or literally (perhaps living and studying abroad as I have been this year),Continue reading “Coming Back to Reality”
